Design and Implementation of Biaxial Solar Tracker using Arduino

Renewable energy sector is important field for numerous countries with the vast potential it presents globally. Solar energy plays an important role as a free source of energy and rapidly gaining notoriety as an important means of expanding renewable energy resources. This project includes the design and implementation of Arduino based biaxial solar tracking system. Both hardware and software aspects has been incorporated. In hardware development, “4” light dependent resistors (LDRs) has been used to capture the maximum light source from the sun. Two DC geared motors mounted with solar panel to move it towards maximum light source sensed by the LDR sensors. In software part, the code has been developed by using programming language “C” and fed to Arduino UNO microcontroller. GUI has been developed in “Processing software” and interfaced with Arduino to analyze real time movement of both axes by feedback of sensors. This biaxial solar tracker allows more energy to be produced because the solar array is able to remain aligned to sun the whole day. Therefore, the solar tracker being safe is proven more effective for capturing the maximum sunlight source for solar applications.
